Judith needs oxygen after bilateral pneumonia but cannot stop smoking, which is as dangerous as it sounds. Her determination to keep lighting up causes an explosion at her own house and then another at Sarah’s guest room, leaving Martin furious and Sarah trying to balance compassion with exasperation.

The episode wisely does not make Judith only a punchline. Her inability to quit becomes another version of the question hanging over Cecilia and Martin: what do people do with the things about themselves they cannot simply will away? Judith’s honesty about wanting to change but not knowing how gives Martin a small, quiet point of connection—one that pays off later when he finally has to decide whether to stop treating his own fear as a private shame.
