Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy held onto the top spot at the weekend box office with an impressive $35 million, bringing its domestic total to a massive $355.2 million. Despite a 49% drop from last weekend, the animated hit continues to dominate with a strong $8,393 per-theater average across 4,170 locations, further cementing its status as one of the year’s biggest performers.
Holding steady in second place, Project Hail Mary from Amazon MGM Studios pulled in $20.4 million, dipping just 15% and showing strong legs as it climbs to a $285.1 million cume. The sci-fi adaptation continues to benefit from positive word of mouth, averaging $5,355 across 3,820 theaters.
Debuting in third place, Warner Bros.’ Lee Cronin’s The Mummy opened to $13.5 million from 3,304 locations. While not a breakout launch, the film’s $4,090 per-theater average suggests moderate interest as it looks to build momentum in the coming weeks.
A24’s The Drama landed in fourth with $4.84 million, bringing its total to $39.6 million. The film dropped 44% from last weekend, with a $1,842 per-theater average across 2,629 locations, continuing its steady but modest run.
Rounding out the top five, Universal’s You, Me & Tuscany grossed $3.8 million, falling 51% as its domestic total reaches $14.3 million. Playing in 3,157 theaters with a $1,204 average, the romantic drama continues to struggle to find a wider audience.
