Dark Matter continues its journey through the multiverse with Season 2 Episode 2, “A Perfect World,” premiering Friday, September 4 on Apple TV.
After the Season 2 premiere sent the story spinning in several different directions, the second episode turns its attention toward the continuing search for somewhere safe — and the unlikely partnership between Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga) and Ryan Holder (Jimmi Simpson).
Amanda and Ryan’s new quest picks up directly from the Season 2 premiere, which left the pair together in a seemingly perfect reality that may be much harder to escape than it first appears.

Apple’s official synopsis keeps the details deliberately brief:
“The search for a new home starts again. Amanda and Ryan set off on a quest.”
That pairing is one of the major new threads established for Season 2. Apple’s broader description of the season confirms Amanda and Ryan join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home, giving both characters another reason to venture through the possibilities offered — and threatened — by the Box.
Dark Matter Season 2 Continues The Search For A Safe World
“A Perfect World” arrives one week after the Season 2 premiere, “A Quiet Life,” which reunited viewers with Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly) and the increasingly complicated collection of characters scattered across different realities.
Season 2 expands the story beyond Jason’s original journey. While Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens and Daniela becomes increasingly uneasy about their family’s fragile new existence, Amanda and Ryan now have their own path through the multiverse. Meanwhile, Leighton Vance (Dayo Okeniyi) continues pursuing his vision of creating a perfect world as Blair Caplan (Amanda Brugel) attempts to stop him.
That makes the title “A Perfect World” particularly interesting. With several characters searching for different versions of safety, home and perfection, the episode could push the season further into the question at the center of Dark Matter: whether finding the life you think you want actually means you’ve found the life where you belong.
