Steven Yeun to Star in Netflix Supernatural Drama Pagans

Steven Yeun is heading back to Netflix for a very different kind of family drama.

The Beef star will lead and executive produce Pagans, a new supernatural drama series from Say Nothing creator Joshua Zetumer. Netflix has ordered the project straight to series, with production expected to begin soon.

Yeun will play Gus, a widowed father raising two children on his own. While his son appears to be navigating relatively ordinary teenage problems, his daughter Alice is another story entirely.

What begins as a fractured relationship between father and daughter will gradually reveal something much darker as Gus discovers that Alice may be connected to forces he doesn’t understand.

What Is Pagans About?

Pagans centers on a family already struggling before the supernatural enters the picture.

Gus is raising his son and daughter alone following the death of his wife. His relationship with Alice has become increasingly difficult, leaving father and daughter divided at a time when both are still dealing with the loss that reshaped their family.

According to Netflix, however, Alice’s problems extend well beyond ordinary teenage rebellion.

The supernatural drama will explore what happens as the family’s existing fractures collide with a much more dangerous threat, forcing Gus to confront what’s happening to his daughter while trying to keep what remains of his family together.

Steven Yeun Returns to Netflix

Pagans brings Yeun back to Netflix following his acclaimed performance opposite Ali Wong in Beef.

Yeun won the Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for his performance as Danny Cho in the Netflix series and will serve as an executive producer on Pagans in addition to starring.

Additional casting for Gus’ family and the other characters surrounding them has not yet been announced.

Who Is Making Pagans?

Joshua Zetumer created Pagans and will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Zetumer previously created the acclaimed FX limited series Say Nothing, based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s nonfiction book about the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg will also executive produce through Goddard Textiles, with Yeun executive producing alongside his starring role.

The combination gives Pagans an intriguing creative pedigree before cameras have even started rolling, pairing Zetumer’s character-driven storytelling with Goddard’s extensive experience across genre television and film.

When Will Pagans Premiere on Netflix?

Netflix has not announced a premiere date for Pagans.

The series is heading toward production, so additional casting, first-look photos and a release window should begin to emerge as the project moves forward.

Netflix is already positioning Pagans among its upcoming original series, with its official guide to the series expected to be updated as new details are announced.

We’ll have more on Pagans as Netflix reveals the rest of the cast and production moves forward.
