Leroy Jethro Gibbs is back.
CBS has announced that Mark Harmon will return to NCIS: ORIGINS this fall, appearing in every episode of Season 3 as part of a season-long present-day mystery connected to Gibbs’ time at Camp Pendleton in the early 1990s.
Harmon, who portrayed Gibbs for 18 seasons on the flagship NCIS series, will once again step back into the iconic role while continuing to serve as an executive producer and narrator of the hit prequel.
The new storyline promises to expand Gibbs’ legacy by weaving together the present day with the events of the 1990s, creating an action-packed mystery that unfolds throughout the entire season.
Harmon previously appeared on-screen during the NCIS: ORIGINS series premiere in 2024 and returned for the franchise’s first-ever crossover event between NCIS and NCIS: ORIGINS in November 2025. His expanded role in Season 3 marks his biggest involvement with the prequel series to date.
