Sacred Heart is getting another familiar face back.
ABC has released the first promo for Scrubs Season 11 — officially Season 2 of the revived series — giving fans a first look at Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke back as J.D., Turk and Elliot ahead of the comedy’s return this fall.
And the promo comes with a surprise for longtime Scrubs fans: Scott Foley is returning as Sean Kelly, Elliot’s memorable on-again, off-again boyfriend from the original series.
Scrubs Season 11 premieres with two episodes Wednesday, September 30 at 8/7c on ABC, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu.
Scott Foley Returns as Sean Kelly
Foley’s return gives Season 11 another direct connection to the original Scrubs, and the first promo doesn’t waste much time having fun with Sean’s unexpected arrival.
When Elliot spots her ex, she responds with an increasingly uncomfortable series of “Cool. Cool, cool, cool” before backing directly into J.D.’s cafeteria table.
Sean was one of Elliot’s most significant relationships during the original series, making his return particularly interesting considering where the revival has taken J.D. and Elliot.
The promo also features Rachel Bilson as Charlie, who was introduced as J.D.’s new love interest during the previous season’s finale. With Sean now back in Elliot’s orbit, Scrubs appears ready to revisit some familiar romantic complications from a very different stage in these characters’ lives.
Scrubs Season 11 Brings Back More Familiar Faces
The new promo features plenty of other returning favorites.
Judy Reyes returns as Carla Espinosa, John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox and Christa Miller as Jordan, joining Braff, Faison and Chalke.
The newer generation at Sacred Heart continues expanding as well. Keyla Monterroso Mejia joins the season as surgical nurse Mimi, while Ava Bunn returns as Sam Tosh and has been promoted to series regular.
Former Saturday Night Live writer and Please Don’t Destroy performer John Higgins is also joining the cast in a recurring role as Grant, a chief resident who reportedly annoys J.D. in much the same way J.D. once irritated Dr. Cox.
That role reversal could be particularly fun. J.D. becoming the exasperated senior doctor dealing with his own version of a younger J.D. gives the revival another way to echo the original series without simply repeating it.

Scrubs Season 11 — Season 2 of ABC’s revival — premieres with back-to-back episodes Wednesday, September 30 at 8/7c on ABC.
New episodes will also be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
With Sean joining a growing list of returning favorites and the newer members of Sacred Heart taking larger roles, the new season looks ready to continue balancing nostalgia for the original Scrubs with the next chapter in J.D., Turk and Elliot’s lives.
