Jessica Chastain is seeing double in the final trailer for Other Mommy, the new supernatural horror movie from producer James Wan and director Rob Savage.
Chastain takes on dual roles as a young girl’s mother and the sinister entity known as “Other Mommy,” a presence that looks uncannily like her. The Universal Pictures horror film is based on Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House and arrives in theaters October 9, 2026.
What Is Other Mommy About?
Other Mommy follows Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), a young girl who develops a relationship with a mysterious entity living in her home. The increasingly sinister presence resembles Bela’s mother and begins drawing the girl deeper into its dark world.
Jessica Chastain plays both Bela’s mother and the entity known as Other Mommy, giving the Academy Award winner two very different sides of the film’s central nightmare. Jay Duplass stars as Bela’s father, Daddo.
Who Is in the Other Mommy Cast?
Alongside Jessica Chastain, Jay Duplass and Arabella Olivia Clark, the Other Mommy cast includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.
The film gives Chastain another trip into the horror genre following appearances in It Chapter Two and Mama, while Lachman will be familiar to viewers from Severance and Moayed from Succession.
Other Mommy Is Based on Incidents Around the House
Other Mommy is adapted from Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House. Malerman is also the author of Bird Box, which was previously adapted into the Netflix film starring Sandra Bullock.
Nathan Elston adapted the novel for the screen, with Rob Savage directing. Savage previously directed the acclaimed screen-life horror film Host as well as The Boogeyman.
James Wan produces the film through Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Wan is one of modern horror’s most recognizable filmmakers, with credits spanning the Saw, Insidious and Conjuring franchises.
When Does Other Mommy Come Out?
Other Mommy opens in theaters Friday, October 9, 2026, from Universal Pictures.
The October release puts the Jessica Chastain horror movie in theaters just as the Halloween season gets underway.
