USA Network Greenlights New Medical Drama ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ From ‘Covert Affairs’ Creators

USA Network is expanding its scripted television lineup following the strong launch of Anna Pigeon, handing a straight-to-series order to the new hour-long medical drama Diplomatic Immunity.

The new series comes from Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who will write, executive produce and serve as showrunners. The pair also worked on Daredevil: Born Again and are now returning to the network where Covert Affairs ran for five seasons.

What Is Diplomatic Immunity About?

Diplomatic Immunity follows a young American doctor who unexpectedly finds himself assigned to the medical office at the U.S. Embassy in Rome.

The assignment puts him in the middle of challenging medical cases complicated by diplomacy, government officials and geopolitical situations. Away from the embassy, he must also navigate romantic entanglements while adjusting to a new life in Rome.

The combination gives USA Network a series that mixes a medical procedural with international intrigue and romance.

“USA Network has always been a home for compelling, character-driven storytelling, and Diplomatic Immunity delivers that with a fresh, global point of view,” said Val Boreland, President of Entertainment, Versant. “We’re thrilled to reunite with Matt & Chris on this smart drama that blends high-stakes medical cases, international intrigue and romance in a way that feels perfectly at home on the network.”

For Corman and Ord, the new series also represents a return to familiar territory after creating one of USA Network’s signature dramas.

“This is an amazing full-circle moment for us. To be reunited with all the talented folks at USA is an absolute dream and the brilliant team at FOX are the perfect studio partners for this Roman adventure,” Corman and Ord said.

USA Network Expands Its Scripted Comeback After Anna Pigeon

The Diplomatic Immunity series order arrives on the heels of the successful debut of USA Network’s new original drama Anna Pigeon.

Starring Tracy Spiridakos as the titular National Park Service ranger, Anna Pigeon premiered August 7 and delivered a record-setting launch for USA Network. According to Deadline, the premiere drew 2.3 million viewers across USA Network, E! and SYFY in Nielsen Live+3 viewing, ranking as cable’s highest-rated new scripted series debut of 2026 in both total viewers and adults 18-49.

It was also USA Network’s highest-rated original scripted series premiere in nearly eight years.

The early success of Anna Pigeon, combined with the straight-to-series order for Diplomatic Immunity, gives USA another building block as the network continues rebuilding a scripted identity that once produced series including SuitsWhite CollarPsych and Covert Affairs.
