Prime Video may have found its new RoboCop.
Dan Stevens is reportedly set to play RoboCop in Prime Video’s upcoming television series, giving the iconic sci-fi character a new face nearly four decades after Peter Weller first stepped into the armor.
The casting is the latest major development for the new RoboCop series, which received an eight-episode order from Prime Video in July.
The project comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Peter Ocko serving as writer, showrunner and executive producer and James Wan among the executive producers.
Deadline first reported the casting, with Stevens set to take on the role of Alex Murphy/RoboCop in the Prime Video series.

Stevens is reportedly set to take on the title role in Prime Video’s new interpretation of RoboCop.
The actor has built an unusually varied résumé since his breakout role on Downton Abbey, with credits spanning Legion, The Guest, Beauty and the Beast, Abigail and the Monsterverse films Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
The role will put Stevens at the center of one of MGM’s most recognizable science-fiction franchises.
Peter Weller originated the role of Alex Murphy/RoboCop in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film and returned for RoboCop 2. Joel Kinnaman later played the character in the 2014 feature-film reboot.
What Is Prime Video’s RoboCop Series About?
The new series will return to the central idea that has defined RoboCop since the original film.
According to the official series logline, a giant technology conglomerate convinces a city to place a powerful robot on its police force. The robot is implanted with the consciousness of a beloved fallen police officer.
That setup strongly echoes the original story of Alex Murphy while leaving plenty of room for the television series to build its own characters and version of the world.
Prime Video has not yet revealed additional plot details or confirmed how closely the series will follow the mythology established by the films.
Prime Video Has Ordered Eight Episodes of RoboCop
This isn’t simply another RoboCop project stuck in development.
Prime Video officially ordered the series in July 2026, giving the first season an eight-episode order.
The project had previously been in development as Amazon MGM Studios explored ways to expand franchises from MGM’s extensive film and television library.
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios with Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett executive produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Importantly, the new series also has a direct connection to the movie that started the franchise.
Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, who co-created and co-wrote the original 1987 RoboCop, are executive producers on the Prime Video series.
Danielle Bozzone of Blumhouse Atomic Monster serves as co-executive producer and oversees the project for the company.
Will the RoboCop Series Keep the Original Movie’s Satire?
That’s one of the biggest questions surrounding the new adaptation.
The original RoboCop became much more than an action movie thanks to its darkly comic satire of corporate power, privatization, consumer culture and the media.
Prime Video’s official description of the new series specifically emphasizes a powerful technology conglomerate placing RoboCop on the police force, suggesting corporate power will once again be central to the story.
Exactly how far the television adaptation will lean into the original movie’s satirical edge remains to be seen.

Prime Video has not announced a premiere date for RoboCop.
