Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 1 Photos Tease Small-Town Chaos

New photos from Best Medicine season 1 episode 1, titled “Docked,” introduce viewers to a charmingly complicated new dramedy as brilliant but brusque surgeon Martin Best trades his high-powered Boston career for a quieter — and far more frustrating — life in the seaside village of Port Wenn, Maine. New series Best Medicine, starring Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra and Annie Potts will have a special advance series premiere on Sunday, Jan. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones) immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader.

The series premiere airs Monday, January 12 from 8:00–9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.

In the premiere episode, Martin arrives in Port Wenn to take over as the town’s general practitioner, quickly discovering that small-town medicine comes with big personalities. His blunt bedside manner and intolerance for nonsense immediately put him at odds with the quirky locals, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin, who questions his harsh demeanor and lack of social grace. As Martin grows increasingly irritated by the town’s eccentric antics, he also struggles to hide a deeply personal secret — a debilitating aversion to blood that threatens his ability to practice medicine.

Based on the critically acclaimed global hit Doc Martin, Best Medicine follows Martin Best, portrayed by Josh Charles, as he navigates life in the very village where he once spent his childhood summers. Though he is a medical genius capable of solving even the most baffling ailments, Martin’s desire to be left alone repeatedly clashes with the emotional needs, feuds, and fantasies of the townspeople who depend on him.

The series also stars Abigail Spencer as Louisa Gavin, whose growing curiosity and concern challenge Martin’s walls; Annie Potts as his outspoken Aunt Sarah; Josh Segarra as Sheriff Mark Mylow; and Cree as Elaine Denton. Recurring guest stars include Didi Conn, Clea Lewis, Stephen Spinella, Jason Veasey, John DiMaggio, and Martin Clunes, who makes a special guest appearance as Martin’s father, Dr. Robert Best.
