Sheriff Country is bringing a real-life marriage to Edgewater for its Season 2 premiere.
Ben McKenzie will guest star opposite his wife Morena Baccarin in Sheriff Country Season 2 Episode 1, “Cyclone,” reuniting the former Gotham co-stars on screen.
McKenzie will play Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff who is called in to help Baccarin’s Mickey Fox during a dangerous new investigation. CBS is already teasing that Wade arrives with “a few secrets of his own.”

McKenzie will make his Sheriff Country debut in the Season 2 premiere, introducing another lawman from outside Edgewater just as Mickey is dealing with both a new criminal threat and turmoil within her own family.
According to CBS, “Cyclone” finds Mickey struggling to process a shocking revelation about her family when she encounters a troubled young woman whose involvement in a dangerous criminal operation points toward a growing threat to Edgewater.
That investigation brings Sheriff Wade into Mickey’s orbit.
Exactly what Wade is hiding remains to be seen, but describing the character as having secrets of his own suggests McKenzie’s appearance could involve considerably more than simply lending Mickey another badge during the case.
Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin Reunite After Gotham
The casting also creates a fun reunion for longtime television fans.
McKenzie and Baccarin previously starred together on Fox’s Gotham, where McKenzie played James Gordon and Baccarin played Dr. Leslie Thompkins.
The pair met while working on the series and married in 2017.
That makes McKenzie’s Sheriff Country appearance particularly fitting: years after playing characters whose relationship became intertwined in Gotham City, the real-life couple will now share the screen as neighboring sheriffs.
McKenzie had even teased the possibility of appearing on his wife’s CBS series earlier this year. While discussing Sheriff Country in April, he acknowledged that he could envision making an appearance on the show.

The first-look images reveal McKenzie as Sheriff Wade alongside Baccarin’s Mickey Fox ahead of the Season 2 premiere.
McKenzie is best known for playing Ryan Atwood on The O.C. and James Gordon on Gotham. More recently, he has also turned his attention toward investigating cryptocurrency and financial fraud, including his book Easy Money and documentary work.
His appearance gives Sheriff Country another recognizable guest star while introducing a character who could potentially expand the law-enforcement world surrounding Edgewater.

As Mickey struggles with a shocking revelation involving her family, she races to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation exposes a larger threat to Edgewater.

The episode will also have to address the fallout from the Season 1 finale, which left Mickey and her family facing major upheaval heading into the show’s second year.

CBS has not revealed much about Wade beyond teasing that he has secrets of his own.
