‘Alice And Steve’ Renewed For Season 2 At Disney+ And Hulu

Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement’s wonderfully messy friendship isn’t finished yet.

Disney+ has renewed British comedy Alice and Steve for Season 2, following a first season that generated critical praise, online debate and one substantial cliffhanger.

The series stars Walker as Alice and Clement as her longtime best friend Steve, whose relationship implodes when Steve begins dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith. Joel Fry also stars as Alice’s husband, Daniel.

Season 2 will stream on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States, while Disney+ will remain the show’s home in the UK and Ireland. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

Alice And Steve Will Return After That Season 1 Cliffhanger

Created and written by Sophie GoodhartAlice and Steve begins with a friendship decades in the making.

Alice and Steve have remained extraordinarily close since briefly dating in their 20s, but their relationship is pushed past the breaking point when Steve and Izzy unexpectedly fall for each other.

Alice doesn’t exactly take the news well.

Convinced she’s about to lose both her daughter and best friend, Alice launches an increasingly aggressive campaign to destroy their relationship. Steve refuses to back down, transforming a once seemingly unbreakable friendship into an all-out feud.

The six-episode first season ultimately leaves Alice and Steve in serious danger after becoming trapped in a fire at the venue where Steve planned to marry Izzy. Their fate isn’t resolved before the credits roll, giving Season 2 a rather urgent place to begin.

Disney hasn’t revealed how the new season will resolve the cliffhanger — and Goodhart isn’t offering many clues.

“No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve.”

Goodhart said she was thrilled to receive the Season 2 renewal.

What Can We Expect From Alice And Steve Season 2?

Disney+ hasn’t announced a Season 2 storyline yet, beyond confirming that Alice and Steve’s chaotic relationship will continue.

Lee Mason, VP of Scripted at Disney+ EMEA, teased that viewers should expect more laughs, betrayal and bad decisions following the first season’s cliffhanger.

That’s probably about as specific as Disney can get without revealing how Alice and Steve escape — assuming both do — from the Season 1 finale.

The renewal follows a strong reception for the British comedy, which won three awards at CANNESERIES and generated plenty of discussion around the intentionally uncomfortable relationship at the center of its story.

The show’s willingness to make everyone involved at least a little difficult to defend is part of its appeal. Steve dating his best friend’s daughter gives Alice plenty of reason to be furious, but her escalating attempts to destroy the relationship create an increasingly complicated fight over friendship, family and loyalty.

Season 2 now gets to deal with the wreckage.

When Does Alice And Steve Season 2 Premiere?

Disney+ has not announced a premiere date for Alice and Steve Season 2.

The streamer also hasn’t confirmed the complete returning Season 2 cast, although today’s renewal announcement prominently identifies Nicola Walker, Jemaine Clement, Yali Topol Margalith and Joel Fry as the stars of the series.

All six episodes of Alice and Steve Season 1 are available to stream now.

In the United States, the series is available through Hulu and Disney+.
