Kate Winslet and Maxine Peake are teaming up as sisters with vengeance on their minds in Netflix’s newly announced limited series The Unheard.
The five-episode thriller follows two sisters who are forced to go on the run after an act of revenge goes disastrously wrong. As they are pursued, the story will unravel what drove them to such a reckless act — and whether escaping the consequences was ever really part of their plan.
The Unheard comes from writer Jack Thorne, co-creator and co-writer of Netflix’s acclaimed Adolescence, with Mounia Akl (Costa Brava, Lebanon) directing.
For Winslet, the project marks another collaboration with Netflix following Goodbye June, her feature directorial debut, which she also produced and starred in. Peake recently appeared in Say Nothing and I Swear.
What Is The Unheard About?
Netflix is keeping most story details under wraps for now, but the central premise immediately puts Winslet and Peake at the center of a mystery.
The sisters have already committed the act of vengeance when the story sends them running. That means The Unheardisn’t simply asking whether they’ll get caught; the larger mystery is why they did it in the first place.
Netflix describes the series as a journey into darkness, while early industry coverage has characterized the project as a Thelma & Louise-style vengeance drama.
With only five episodes, the limited-series format should allow Thorne to keep that mystery tightly focused rather than stretching the pursuit across a conventional full season.
Who Stars In The Unheard?
For now, Netflix has announced only its two leads.
Kate Winslet and Maxine Peake will play the sisters at the center of the story. Winslet will also serve as an executive producer on the series.
The project reunites several creative forces connected to Adolescence. Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters will executive produce for Matriarch Productions, alongside Mark Herbert and Emily Feller for Warp Films and Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Nina Wolarsky for Plan B. Thorne also executive produces.
That combination of Winslet and Peake in front of the camera and Thorne behind it gives Netflix a substantial prestige-drama package before production has even begun.
When Will The Unheard Premiere On Netflix?
Netflix has not announced a release date for The Unheard.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, meaning viewers will have a while to wait before Winslet and Peake’s revenge story reaches the screen.
Additional casting, production details and a premiere date are expected to be announced as the series moves closer to filming.
