Hulu is turning up the heat this fall with The Roses, a new Searchlight Pictures romantic dark comedy starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jay Roach (Bombshell, Meet the Parents), the film begins streaming November 20, exclusively on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S.
In The Roses, Cumberbatch and Colman star as Ivy and Theo Rose — a picture-perfect couple whose seemingly ideal life begins to crumble under the pressure of success, jealousy, and ambition. As Theo’s once-glittering career collapses and Ivy’s star rises, love turns into rivalry in this hilariously harrowing exploration of modern marriage.
A reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler, this new version brings biting humor and emotional depth to a timeless tale of love gone wrong. The film also features an all-star cast including Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon.
With Jay Roach’s signature blend of satire and heart, The Roses delivers a sharp, laugh-out-loud look at relationships, ambition, and the chaos beneath the surface of suburban perfection. Critics are already praising it as one of the funniest and most relatable films of the year.
