Dr. Robby is back — and his return to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center doesn’t look like it’s going to be an easy one.
HBO Max has released the first official teaser and first-look photos from The Pitt Season 3, offering the first footage of Noah Wyle returning as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch following the sabbatical that began at the end of Season 2.
The Emmy-winning medical drama returns in January 2027 with another shift inside the emergency department, and the first teaser makes it clear that Robby won’t have much time to ease himself back into life at PTMC.

The teaser begins before Robby even arrives, with members of the night shift wondering whether he’ll actually show up for his first day back.
He does.
After four months away from the emergency department, Robby walks back into a hospital filled with familiar faces — and the same kind of controlled chaos that has defined The Pitt from the beginning.

The footage offers glimpses of Robby’s reunions with Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) and other members of the PTMC staff as another demanding shift gets underway.
Robby acknowledges that returning won’t be simple. He knew his first day back would be difficult and that the emergency department could quickly become overwhelming, but he’s ready to get back to work.
When Does The Pitt Season 3 Take Place?
The Pitt Season 3 takes place on November 12, 2026, approximately four months after the July 4 shift depicted throughout Season 2.
The time jump allows Robby to return from his sabbatical while giving the rest of the hospital staff several months of unseen history before viewers rejoin them for another day at PTMC.
As with the first two seasons, Season 3 will unfold across a single shift, continuing the show’s distinctive real-time structure as doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers confront a new wave of medical emergencies.
