Christopher Nolan has added another box office record to The Odyssey’s remarkable theatrical run.
The Matt Damon-led epic has reached approximately $1.685 billion worldwide, passing 2015’s Jurassic World to become the highest-grossing movie in Universal Pictures history.
Universal officially announced the record after The Odyssey surpassed the longtime worldwide benchmark established by Jurassic World.
The milestone comes less than two months after The Odyssey opened in theaters on July 17. The film has now earned approximately $601.2 million domestically and $1.083 billion internationally.

The Odyssey Passes Jurassic World for Universal’s Box Office Record
Universal’s previous worldwide record belonged to Jurassic World, which had stood at approximately $1.677 billion since 2015.
The Odyssey has now sailed past that mark, giving Universal a new all-time box office champion and putting Nolan’s film at No. 12 on the worldwide all-time box office chart.
It is also the third-highest-grossing non-franchise movie of all time, an especially notable achievement in an era when many of the biggest global releases are sequels, superhero films or installments in established cinematic franchises.
Universal says The Odyssey is its highest-grossing movie ever in 45 international markets, including Australia, France, Italy, India and Korea.

The Universal record is only one of several major box office milestones The Odyssey has collected during its theatrical run.
The film is now Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie ever domestically, internationally and worldwide, surpassing every previous film in a career that includes The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception and Oppenheimer.
The Odyssey has also become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and the highest-grossing IMAX release ever.
IMAX reported earlier this month that the film had already generated $485 million worldwide on IMAX screens alone, nearly twice the total of the format’s previous record holder.
The Odyssey Crosses $1 Billion Internationally
The film’s international performance may be its most impressive box office achievement.
With $1.083 billion earned outside the domestic market, The Odyssey became the first movie that is neither a sequel nor a remake to cross $1 billion internationally since 2009.
Its staying power has been equally unusual. Universal says the movie generated a 6.33 global box office multiple and even returned to No. 1 worldwide during its eighth weekend in theaters while dropping only 9 percent domestically.
That kind of longevity has helped turn what began as one of the summer’s biggest openings into a record-breaking theatrical run.

The Odyssey Continues a Huge Year for Universal
The Odyssey has also helped power a massive 2026 for Universal Pictures.
The studio has generated more than $4.92 billion at the worldwide box office this year and became the first studio in 2026 to cross both $4 billion globally and $3 billion internationally.
But even among those numbers, The Odyssey stands apart. Nolan and producer Emma Thomas took one of the oldest stories in Western literature and turned it into the biggest global box office success in Universal’s history.
And with the film still playing theatrically, its $1.685 billion total may not be its final destination.
