NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura introduced audiences to a refreshingly different kind of detective when the series premiered in 2014. Starring Debra Messing as NYPD homicide detective Laura Diamond, the crime dramedy follows a brilliant investigator who somehow manages to solve New York City’s toughest murders while juggling life as a single mother of mischievous twin boys and navigating a complicated relationship with her soon-to-be ex-husband, fellow detective Jake Broderick. The series blends traditional police procedural storytelling with comedy and family drama, creating a unique tone that helped it stand out during its two-season run.
