Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 4, “Lost and Found,” gives River and Sid a brief reunion before the people hunting them tear it apart. The chase through a bowling alley is tense and often funny. By the final scene, J.K. Coe is dead, Sid has been abducted, and River is pursuing the assassins alone.
Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb spends the hour following a different trail: Frank Harkness and the person paying him. Meanwhile, Jack Lowden’s River Cartwright, Olivia Cooke’s Sid Baker and Tom Brooke’s Coe discover how little room they have to escape.
River and Sid’s Escape Leads to a Bowling Alley
Picking up from Episode 3’s cliffhanger, River and Sid enter a bowling alley looking for a payphone. Sid wants to reach Diana Taverner, but getting access to the phone proves harder than either agent expects. River’s attempted bribe gets him nowhere. Sid succeeds by improvising an emotional story for the employee at the counter.
It is a welcome stretch of comedy that also shows why River and Sid are so engaging together. Sid reads the room instantly; River remains a beat behind her. Their old connection is there, but neither has much time to examine it. Jim and Jane have followed them inside, and the call gives way to gunfire.
Jane wounds River’s hand as the pair scramble through the bowling alley. Outside, Jim goes after Coe. The three Slow Horses manage to regroup and drive away, but the escape offers only a temporary lead. The assassins are capable, persistent and willing to kill anyone who gets in their way.
Lamb Finds the Man Behind Frank’s Assignment
Elsewhere, Lamb uses Reece Nesmith as bait to draw Frank Harkness into a meeting. Reece witnessed Frank kill his father, and Lamb understands that the boy’s knowledge makes him a target. The proposed blackmail demand brings Lamb and Frank face to face at a Shake Shack.
Their conversation is one of the episode’s strongest scenes. Gary Oldman and Hugo Weaving let the shared history between these men do much of the work. Frank speaks with the ease of someone who recognizes Lamb’s methods, while Lamb keeps pressing for the name of Frank’s employer. Neither can simply threaten the other into giving ground.
Lamb then follows Frank with Reece, Roddy Ho and Emma Flyte. Flyte sees Frank meet Damien Cantor, connecting the mercenary to the media figure whose influence over Taverner has already become a problem. It gives Lamb a concrete lead, though Cantor’s precise role in the broader attack on Slough House still needs to be untangled.
Lamb’s investigation also provides a useful counterweight to the chase. His agents survive through speed and luck; he gets closer to the truth by forcing a conversation and watching where Frank goes afterward. Both approaches carry risks, and Lamb cannot protect everyone while he pursues the person holding Frank’s leash.
Taverner Makes a Dangerous Deal
Taverner faces pressure of her own over the operation in Kazan. Her negotiations with Russian official Vassily produce a disturbing bargain: Sid Baker is to be handed over, and the assassins will have safe passage, in exchange for an end to the killings of the other agents on their list.
That arrangement changes how the final pursuit reads. Sid has been trying to reach Taverner for help, but Taverner has made her the price of protecting everyone else. The episode does not present this as a rescue plan. It is a hard calculation made by someone who believes she can control the terms of an increasingly unstable situation.
The other Slow Horses remain scattered. Louisa, Shirley, Catherine and Moira seek cover at Taverner’s vacation home, where the group’s friction gives the hour a little breathing space. Catherine’s proximity to the house’s alcohol is a quieter source of tension amid the gunfire elsewhere. The series remembers that surviving the night does not erase what each character is carrying into it.
Coe Makes His Stand
The pursuit catches up with River, Sid and Coe at a busy rest stop. Coe spots Jim and Jane, then waits for Jim in the men’s room. Their exchange is brief before both men draw knives. Coe fights with the unnerving focus that has made him one of Slough House’s most formidable agents, but Jim stabs him in the stomach.
At the same time, Jane overpowers Sid outside. River is separated from both of them, and by the time he sees the assassins’ car leave, Sid is inside it with Jim and Jane. He then finds Coe slumped against the bathroom wall, his hood up and music playing through his headphones.
The staging gives Coe a final act of agency without pretending skill could guarantee his survival. Tom Brooke has made the character memorable through stillness and small shifts in expression, so the sight of him alone after the fight lands harder than a longer farewell might have. River barely has time to absorb it before the need to find Sid takes over.
Final Verdict
“Lost and Found” is a gripping hour that knows when to pause its chase for a sharper character scene. River and Sid’s bowling-alley exchange, Lamb’s meeting with Frank and Coe’s last fight each reveal something about the people involved while pushing the story forward.
The rapid movement among several groups can make Cantor’s and Taverner’s competing agendas difficult to track on a first watch. Still, the ending is clear and devastating: one Slow Horse is gone, another has been delivered into danger, and Lamb finally has a name to pursue.
A funny, tense pursuit turns devastating as Coe makes his stand and Sid falls into the assassins’ hands.
Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 4 Ending Explained
Does J.K. Coe die?
Yes. Jim fatally stabs Coe during their knife fight in the rest-stop bathroom. River finds him afterward, slumped against the wall with his headphones on. Coe’s death is definitive; Tom Brooke has also discussed filming the character’s final scene.
What happens to Sid Baker?
Sid survives the episode, but Jane and Jim abduct her. River sees her in their departing car and pursues them. Her capture appears tied to Taverner’s arrangement with Vassily: Sid is the person Taverner has agreed to surrender in return for stopping the killings of the other agents on the list.
Who hired Frank Harkness?
Lamb’s surveillance leads him to Damien Cantor, whom Emma Flyte sees meeting Frank. Cantor is therefore a direct lead in Frank’s current assignment. The episode has not yet resolved every connection among Cantor, the stolen files, the Russians and the attacks on Slough House.
Why does the episode end with River chasing Sid?
River has just discovered Coe’s body and seen Sid taken away alive. He cannot undo Coe’s death, but he may still be able to reach Sid before Taverner’s bargain or the assassins’ own plans determine what happens to her.
What’s Next for Slow Horses?
Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 5, “Sayonara,” arrives Wednesday, October 14, on Apple TV. River’s pursuit of Sid and Lamb’s new lead on Cantor carry the story toward the season’s final two episodes.
