ABC’s Scandal returned from its winter hiatus with one of the series’ most intense hours in Season 4 Episode 11 (S4E11 / 4×11), “Where’s the Black Lady?” Originally airing on February 5, 2015, the episode picks up immediately after Olivia Pope’s shocking kidnapping, with her friends, colleagues, and the White House scrambling to uncover her whereabouts before time runs out. As Olivia fights to survive in captivity, every member of Team Pope is forced to push their limits in a desperate race against the clock.
Written by Raamla Mohamed and directed by Debbie Allen, “Where’s the Black Lady?” shifts the series into full-scale political thriller territory. Fitz grows increasingly frustrated as he realizes just how deeply corruption has spread within his own administration, while Jake, Huck, Quinn, Abby, and David Rosen combine their resources in an effort to track down Olivia. The episode also raises the stakes surrounding Vice President Andrew Nichols and Ian Woods, whose larger conspiracy begins to reveal itself as the search intensifies.
The episode is a major turning point for Season 4, launching one of Scandal’s most memorable story arcs as Olivia’s kidnapping transforms nearly every relationship on the series. Led by Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Scott Foley, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Guillermo Díaz, Jeff Perry, Bellamy Young, and Joshua Malina, the episode also features notable guest appearances from Jon Tenney, Portia de Rossi, Jason Butler Harner, Brian Letscher, and television legend Marla Gibbs.
