Pokémon & Disney+ Strike Global Deal As Aardman Series Gets 2027 Streaming Home

Disney+ is getting into the Pokémon business.

Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International have announced a new global distribution agreement that will make the streaming service the exclusive worldwide streaming home of the upcoming stop-motion series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu in 2027.

The deal also includes the classic animated series Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which began airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the United States and select international markets.

The announcement came Friday during PokémonXP, where The Pokémon Company International and Aardman also debuted the official teaser trailer for The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu and offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming series.

Aardman’s Pokémon Series Is Coming To Disney+ In 2027

Created by Aardman, the animation studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the SheepPokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu sends its title Pokémon on an adventure through the Galar Region.

Sirfetch’d and Pichu set out on a quest to help and protect Pokémon throughout Galar, although their missions rarely unfold according to plan. Along the way, their misadventures strengthen their friendship as they encounter new allies, rivals, dangers and plenty of other Pokémon.

The Pokémon Company and Aardman first revealed the project’s title and characters in 2025, with additional artwork and story details arriving earlier this summer. Friday’s announcement answers one of the biggest outstanding questions surrounding the project: where audiences will actually be able to watch it.

The series will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively worldwide on Disney+ in 2027. An exact premiere date has not yet been announced.

The teaser debuted during Friday’s PokémonXP panel featuring The Pokémon Company’s director of original animation Phil Rynda alongside Aardman director Tom Parkinson, Creative Director – IP Development Nat McKay and Model Making Creative Lead James Young

The panel explored how Aardman is combining its signature stop-motion craftsmanship, character comedy and storytelling with the Pokémon universe.

“These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman,” Rynda said in announcing the partnership.

Aardman’s creative team includes Parkinson as director, McKay as Creative Director – IP Development and Young as Model Making Creative Lead. The series is produced by The Pokémon Company International and was acquired by Disney Kids & Family as part of the new global distribution agreement.

Pokémon The Series: The Beginning Is Also Part Of The Deal

The agreement extends beyond the new Aardman project.

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning follows Ash and Pikachu on their early adventures through the Pokémon world and becomes the first title released through the new Disney+/Pokémon distribution partnership.

The classic series is airing on Disney XD and is now available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.

That makes Friday’s announcement considerably larger than simply finding a home for one upcoming series.

Disney now has a global distribution relationship with one of entertainment’s biggest franchises — beginning with classic Ash and Pikachu adventures and expanding next year with an entirely different stop-motion interpretation of the Pokémon world.

And putting Pokémon together with Aardman may be the most intriguing part of the deal.

We’ll find out how well that combination works when Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu arrives on Disney XD and Disney+ in 2027.
