Sonny Suspects His Mother Has Been Replaced
Sonny wakes after a car accident and notices that Ellen looks slightly different. The change is apparent to him, yet nobody else sees it. His efforts to explain what has happened meet disbelief, leaving him to search for proof on his own terms.
The suspicion makes home an uncertain place. Sonny must navigate living with someone he believes could be a dangerous imposter while trying to convince others that his concerns are real.
That uncertainty drives “Pilot”: Sonny sees a change in his mother, but the people around him do not share his perception. The opening premise leaves viewers with his question rather than establishing that Ellen has actually been replaced.
Sam Nivola and Connie Britton Lead the Cast
Sam Nivola plays Sonny Cooke, with Connie Britton as Ellen. Their mother-son relationship sits at the center of the mystery. The supporting cast includes Grace Brennan, Maliq Johnson, Colter Lee, Meera Syal and Mahaela Park.
Nick Paley created the series and wrote its first two episodes. Learn more about the cast and release plans in Disney’s official Phony guide.
