Once Upon a Time Season 3 Episode 1 (S3E1) Photos: “The Heart of the Truest Believer”

ABC’s Once Upon a Time launched its third season with Once Upon A Time Season 3 Episode 1 (S3E1 / 3×01), “The Heart of the Truest Believer.” Originally airing on September 29, 2013, the season premiere picks up immediately after Henry’s kidnapping as Emma, Snow White, Prince Charming, Regina, Rumplestiltskin, and Captain Hook travel aboard the Jolly Roger in search of Neverland. Their uneasy alliance is quickly tested when dangerous mermaids attack the ship and the group realizes rescuing Henry will require them to work together despite years of betrayal and distrust.

Meanwhile, Henry finds himself stranded in Neverland after Greg and Tamara are ambushed. He joins another young escapee while attempting to stay ahead of the Lost Boys, unaware that Peter Pan has been manipulating events from the beginning. Elsewhere, Neal awakens in the Enchanted Forest and sets out with Mulan to discover what happened to Emma and Henry.

“The Heart of the Truest Believer” is significant because it begins the show’s ambitious Neverland storyline and introduces Robbie Kay’s Peter Pan as one of the series’ most memorable villains. The episode also brings heroes, villains, and former enemies together around a shared mission, creating a new group dynamic that drives the first half of Season 3.

Led by Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, Colin O’Donoghue, Jared S. Gilmore, and Michael Raymond-James, the premiere also features Robbie Kay, Jamie Chung, Sarah Bolger, Julian Morris, Ethan Embry, and Sonequa Martin-Green.
