CBS has released the official trailer and new cast promo photos for NCIS: New York, bringing LL COOL J’s Sam Hanna back to the city where his story began—and introducing the new team he will help lead.
The latest addition to the NCIS franchise follows the legendary agent as he returns to his hometown and joins the New York field office. Sam will be partnered with NCIS Special Agent Nick Schaeffer, played by Scott Caan, as the team takes on high-stakes missions in one of the world’s most important cities and ports.
That is a smart foundation for the series. Sam is already a known quantity for longtime NCIS viewers, which gives the show a connection to the larger franchise without asking New York’s new office to feel like a copy of another team. Pairing him with Caan’s more roguish Schaeffer also puts the focus where it should be for a new procedural: on the people who have to figure out how to work together when the case gets difficult.

LL COOL J returns as NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna, the role he played across NCIS: Los Angeles and subsequent franchise appearances. He is joined by a strong new ensemble built around the New York field office:

The promo images put faces to that new office and underline the show’s city-specific identity. New York has always been one of television’s most familiar crime-drama settings, but the NCIS angle gives the franchise a different lane to explore: waterfront security, major-port investigations and cases with international stakes sitting right alongside the team’s personal dynamics.
NCIS: New York arrives at an interesting moment for the franchise: familiar enough to welcome viewers who have followed Sam for years, but built to stand as a new ensemble drama. The trailer makes the central pitch clear—Sam may know the city, but this is a different office, a different set of relationships and a new mission for one of the franchise’s most enduring agents.
