Jessica Chastain is heading back into the world of country music — this time for a dark mystery in Nashville.
Netflix has announced that Heartland, a new thriller starring the Academy Award winner as reclusive former country music superstar Misty Jones, will premiere November 13, 2026. Netflix also released the first photos from the upcoming film.
Written and directed by Country Strong filmmaker Shana Feste, Heartland follows Misty as she emerges from seclusion after her niece, rising country musician Charlie Heart, disappears.
Her search takes her into a darker side of Nashville while forcing Misty to confront secrets from her own past — and discover that the people around her may not be exactly who they appear to be.
Jessica Chastain Returns To The World Of Country Music
The role brings Chastain back to familiar musical territory after her Emmy-nominated performance as country legend Tammy Wynette opposite Michael Shannon in the limited series George & Tammy.
Chastain told People that playing Wynette gave her an advantage when approaching Misty, allowing her to draw on her previous exploration of the effects of country music superstardom.
The Nashville setting is also familiar territory for Feste, who previously wrote and directed the 2010 country music drama Country Strong.
For Heartland, however, the filmmaker is taking the setting in a darker direction. Feste told People that she wanted to explore Nashville through a film-noir perspective while putting a complicated and deeply flawed woman at the center of the story.
There is another Country Strong reunion in the cast: Garrett Hedlund, who starred in Feste’s 2010 film, appears alongside Chastain as Roy Combs.
Who Is In The Heartland Cast?
Joining Chastain and Hedlund are Ross Lynch, Jennifer Nettles, Paul Sparks and John Hawkes.
Country singer-songwriter Carter Faith makes her screen acting debut as Charlie Heart, Misty’s rising-star niece whose disappearance sets the story in motion.
Faith told People that Chastain encouraged her to approach acting like a real conversation — listening and responding to her scene partner rather than simply concentrating on memorized lines.
The first-look photos released for the film offer an early glimpse at Chastain as Misty, along with Hedlund, Faith and Nettles.
Heartland is written and directed by Shana Feste and produced by Chernin Entertainment and Sandbox Entertainment.
Heartland premieres November 13, 2026 on Netflix.
