Happy Endings Season 2 Episode 7, “The Code War,” brings an unexpected person from Max’s past back into his life — and naturally turns it into a competition between friends.
Originally airing November 16, 2011 (9:31-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network., the episode features Riki Lindhome as Angie, Max’s high school girlfriend from before he realized he was gay. Her arrival in Chicago creates very different reactions from Max, Dave, Penny and Alex, while Jane becomes preoccupied with Brad’s relationship with his “work wife.”
What Happens In Happy Endings “The Code War”?
Angie’s return immediately complicates things for the group. Penny, who also once dated Max, becomes jealous but responds by going completely in the opposite direction and trying to become Angie’s new best friend.
Things get even stranger when Alex develops an unexpected crush on Max. But the real conflict begins when Dave and Angie connect and start dating.
Max insists Dave is violating “the code” by dating his former girlfriend. Dave argues that the rule shouldn’t apply because Max is gay, setting off the episode’s titular “code war” as the two friends begin breaking increasingly ridiculous rules in retaliation.
Meanwhile, Jane discovers that Brad has what amounts to a “work wife.” Not about to let that stand, she decides she needs a work husband of her own and targets Steven, the slightly unhinged head of Human Resources played by guest star Hayes MacArthur.
Who Guest Stars In “The Code War”?
Riki Lindhome guest stars as Angie, Max’s former high school girlfriend, while Hayes MacArthur appears as Steven. The episode also features the regular Happy Endings cast, including Elisha Cuthbert as Alex, Eliza Coupe as Jane, Zachary Knighton as Dave, Adam Pally as Max, Damon Wayans Jr. as Brad and Casey Wilson as Penny.
