Godzilla survived — and Japan is about to face the consequences.
TOHO and GKIDS have released a new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, the highly anticipated sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One from returning director Takashi Yamazaki. The new footage confirms that Godzilla was not fully destroyed and offers a look at the latest attempt to eliminate the monster.
The trailer arrives ahead of the film’s world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival on Saturday, September 26. Godzilla Minus Zero opens theatrically in Japan on November 3 before beginning its wide North American theatrical release on Friday, November 6.
Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer Reveals Godzilla Survived
The new trailer picks up on one of the biggest lingering questions following Godzilla Minus One, confirming that humanity’s previous effort was not enough to completely destroy Godzilla.
Set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, the sequel returns to a Japan still struggling to rebuild after World War II and Godzilla’s devastating attack. The story continues to follow the Shikishima family as the country faces another catastrophic threat.
The footage provides a glimpse of a new kaiju extermination operation while introducing additional characters who will become involved in the fight. A new theatrical poster has also been released, placing Godzilla at its center surrounded by mysterious blue energy as bright gold lightning strikes from above.
Masami Nagasawa Joins the Godzilla Minus Zero Cast
The new trailer also reveals Masami Nagasawa as Makoto Aoyama, a brilliant weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau.
Jun Kunimura joins the cast as Dr. Ogata, while Ko Maehara plays Akira Hagiwara, an assistant to Professor Murakami (Min Tanaka). Motosuke Iida also reprises his Godzilla Minus One role as Akio Itagaki, the Toyo Balloon section chief who helped with the previous Godzilla extermination operation.
Kenji Misuhashi, Eita Okuno and Kai Inowaki are among the additional cast members announced for the sequel.
They join previously confirmed returning stars Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko, with Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando and Miou Tanaka also returning from Godzilla Minus One.

The latest trailer raises the stakes following the apparent victory at the end of Godzilla Minus One, showing a recovering Japan forced to confront the realization that the monster has survived.
Godzilla Minus Zero Was Filmed For IMAX
Godzilla Minus Zero also marks a filmmaking first. The movie was shot entirely in Japan and is the first Japanese production to receive the Filmed For IMAX designation.
The production used high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, with its imagery and sound optimized for IMAX presentation. Yamazaki once again serves as director, screenwriter and visual effects supervisor after Godzilla Minus One won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
When Does Godzilla Minus Zero Come Out?
Godzilla Minus Zero makes its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 26, 2026. TOHO will release the film theatrically in Japan on November 3, followed by a wide North American theatrical release from GKIDS beginning November 6.
The film is produced by TOHO, with TOHO Studios and ROBOT serving as production studios and SHIROGUMI handling visual effects.
