One of Marvel’s most anticipated casting rumors is officially reality.
During Marvel Studios’ blockbuster Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that Ghost Rider is officially riding into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new feature film will star Ryan Gosling as the iconic Spirit of Vengeance, with Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) directing.
The film is currently slated for a 2028 theatrical release.
Ryan Gosling Finally Gets His Dream Marvel Role
Taking the Hall H stage, Gosling shared his excitement about finally bringing one of his dream characters to life.
“Wow. Is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time. But if we’re really going to do this, there’s only one director who can do it.”
Moments later, Shawn Levy joined Gosling on stage to confirm he’ll be behind the camera for Marvel’s latest supernatural adventure.
Levy revealed the project grew out of conversations the pair had while filming the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.
“We spent a lot of time last year making Star Wars: Starfighter, and as Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing, and I finally said, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ So guys, we’ll see you in 2028.”
A Major Addition to the MCU
The announcement officially brings Ghost Rider into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marking another major expansion beyond Marvel’s traditional roster of heroes.
While story details remain under wraps, the character’s supernatural roots open the door for Marvel to further explore the darker corners of the MCU following recent projects featuring magic, monsters, and the occult.
For Gosling, the role marks his long-awaited MCU debut after years of fan speculation about which Marvel character he might eventually portray.
