Evil Dead Burn will be available to stream on HBO Max beginning Friday, October 2. Its HBO television premiere follows Saturday, October 3 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The streaming and television dates give viewers two ways to watch, with the Saturday lineup offering a chance to revisit the franchise’s two previous films before the new one.
What Is Evil Dead Burn About?
The new film follows a woman grieving her husband who visits his family at their secluded home. What begins as a search for comfort turns into a fight for survival when her in-laws become Deadites one by one. The premise takes the franchise’s familiar possession horror and places it inside a family gathering where every new threat is someone she came to see.
Souheila Yacoub leads a cast that includes Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand and Maude Davey. Sébastien Vaniček directs from a screenplay he wrote with Florent Bernard. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi produce, while Bruce Campbell, Romel Adam, Sarah Spurway, Jose Cañas and Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin serve as executive producers.
The Saturday HBO schedule makes for a particularly fitting lead-in. The 2013 Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise each bring possession into a close-knit group with nowhere comfortable to retreat. Burn turns that pressure toward a widow and the family she has married into, giving the latest Deadite outbreak a fresh emotional fault line.
