The season picks up with Chuck believing that a new Intersect could finally give him his old life back, but those hopes don’t last long. As Chuck, Sarah and Casey face a growing threat from Fulcrum, Chuck learns more about the Intersect, Sarah’s past and his own family history, while his complicated feelings for Sarah become increasingly difficult to ignore.

Academy Award nominee Michael Clarke Duncan (“The Green Mile”) guest stars as Colt, a menacing operative. Chuck (Zachary Levi) prevents Colt from obtaining the Cipher — a device that would ultimately lead to a new Intersect. Chuck is told that this successful mission marks the end of his espionage career and the beginning of a normal life. Free from bullets and bombs, Chuck finally asks Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) out on a real first date.

But Chuck’s role as the old Intersect is not good news for everyone, as Casey (Adam Baldwin) deals with a difficult order assigned to him. Meanwhile, at Buy More, Morgan (Joshua Gomez) devises an eccentric way to hire a new assistant manager.

In an attempt to save face, he lies to the girl who broke his heart and tells her that he is more successful than he really is.

Their cover doesn’t sit particularly well with Jill, who becomes jealous as Chuck and Sarah work together. As the team follows a series of clues left behind by Guy LaFleur, the mission becomes increasingly dangerous and Chuck is forced to make some difficult decisions when Jill’s life is threatened.

Sarah’s complicated past comes back into her life when her estranged father, Jack Burton (Gary Cole), arrives in town. A lifelong con artist, Jack has become involved in an elaborate real estate scam targeting a wealthy sheik with suspected terrorist connections.

When Chuck flashes on the sheik, Team Bartowski is ordered to use Jack’s con to gain access to the man’s financial accounts. Chuck, Sarah and Casey are soon pulled into the scheme, forcing Sarah to work alongside the father who taught her everything she knows about deception.

The mission also gives Chuck a revealing look at Sarah’s childhood and the unusual relationship she shares with her father. When Jack’s latest double-cross puts both the operation and Sarah in danger, Chuck becomes an unexpected part of his plan.

Meanwhile, Anna wants Morgan to take the next step in their relationship and get an apartment together. Captain Awesome loans Morgan the money he needs — only for Morgan to spend it on a broken-down DeLorean instead.

Christmas Eve at the Buy More takes a dangerous turn when a car crashes through the store and the driver takes Chuck, Sarah, Casey and the rest of the employees hostage. Ellie and Awesome are also trapped inside as what initially appears to be a desperate robbery develops into something much more complicated.

Chuck tries to keep his friends and family safe while Sarah and Casey work to determine the hostage-taker’s real objective. The situation becomes even more dangerous when Fulcrum enters the picture, forcing Sarah to make a brutal decision to protect Chuck and the Intersect.

That decision leaves Chuck shaken after he witnesses a side of Sarah he has rarely seen, raising new questions about how well he truly knows the woman assigned to protect him.

Chuck’s quiet attempt to recover from the events of Christmas Eve is interrupted when international rock star Tyler Martin becomes the target of an assassination plot. After Chuck flashes on one of Tyler’s handlers, Sarah and Casey bring the singer into protective custody.

Chuck soon finds himself responsible for keeping the reckless rock star out of trouble, but Tyler isn’t interested in hiding. Their night out puts both men in danger and forces Chuck back into action.

Chuck and Cole are forced into hiding while Sarah and Casey search for the scientist, giving Chuck more time to confront his jealousy over Sarah and Cole. But Chuck’s biggest discovery comes when he realizes there may finally be someone who can help him remove the Intersect from his head.

When intelligence points to Roark’s company as part of a Fulcrum operation, Chuck gets the opportunity to infiltrate Roark Instruments by landing what appears to be his dream job. The assignment puts Chuck face-to-face with his hero while uncovering surprising connections between Roark, Stephen and the Intersect.

Chuck soon discovers that his father’s disappearance was hiding a much bigger secret — one that changes what Chuck knows about both Stephen and the technology inside his own head.

Their search leads them to the facility where Stephen is being held and brings Chuck closer than ever to removing the Intersect from his head. Casey eventually catches up with the fugitives, but the mission forces everyone to reconsider where their loyalties truly lie.

With Fulcrum closing in and Stephen’s life at stake, Chuck faces the possibility that the normal life he has wanted since becoming the Intersect may finally be within reach.

Meanwhile, Morgan becomes an outcast at the Buy More after accidentally helping Emmett earn a promotion.

Ellie and Awesome’s wedding day finally arrives, but Chuck’s hopes for a normal family celebration are shattered when Ted Roark and Fulcrum threaten both the ceremony and the people he loves.

With Stephen back in his life and the Intersect apparently no longer standing between Chuck and a normal future, Chuck must decide how far he is willing to go to protect Ellie. Sarah, Casey and Bryce Larkin are pulled into the fight as Fulcrum’s plans collide with the wedding, forcing Team Bartowski into action one more time.

When the original ceremony is ruined, Chuck secretly uses government resources to give Ellie the wedding she wanted, while Jeffster! provides an unforgettable performance of “Mr. Roboto.”

But Chuck’s story as the Intersect is far from over. A new threat emerges, and Chuck is faced with a decision that changes everything. After downloading the upgraded Intersect 2.0, Chuck discovers that the new system can give him abilities he never possessed before.

Season 2 ends with Chuck delivering one of the series’ defining lines:
