Andrew Yancy is heading back into the wonderfully strange world of South Florida.
Apple TV has announced that Bad Monkey Season 2 will premiere globally on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, with Vince Vaughn returning as former Miami detective Andrew Yancy. The streamer also released the first photos from the new season, which will tell an all-new original story while introducing several major additions to the cast.
The 10-episode second season will launch with one episode on December 2, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through the season finale on February 3, 2027.
Developed by Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling novel, Bad Monkey debuted on Apple TV in 2024. While the first season adapted Hiaasen’s book, Season 2 will take Yancy into previously unexplored territory with a new story created for the television series.
Bad Monkey Season 2 Gives Andrew Yancy a New Murder to Solve
Yancy’s latest adventure begins when he witnesses the murder of what Apple describes as “Florida’s finest fixer.”
An ambitious state attorney pairs Yancy with a strait-laced forensic accountant to investigate the killing, giving the former detective another potential opportunity to regain the badge he’s been trying to reclaim.
Naturally, things become considerably more complicated from there.
The investigation pulls Yancy into a turf war between rival criminal organizations and introduces him to another collection of colorful Florida characters, including an erudite mob boss, the mobster’s unhinged son and a tough young woman who needs Yancy’s protection.
It’s familiar territory for Bad Monkey without simply repeating Season 1. The show’s combination of murder mystery, Florida absurdity and Vaughn’s rapid-fire comic delivery proved to be one of its defining strengths, and the new premise gives Lawrence and his writers an opportunity to preserve that identity without being constrained by another existing Yancy novel.
Rosa Returns — And Has a Mystery of Her Own
Yancy’s professional problems won’t be his only concern.
Natalie Martinez returns as Dr. Rosa Campesino, with the unresolved romantic tension between Rosa and Yancy carrying into Season 2.
Rosa will also have an investigation of her own after encountering a mysterious rash, suggesting the season may be juggling two mysteries before their respective stories inevitably begin colliding.
Yancy will additionally have to contend with his aging father and a “bombastic animal relocation specialist” whose business threatens the local environment.
Considering the show’s title, allowing Florida wildlife to complicate Yancy’s life again feels entirely appropriate.
John Malkovich and Yvonne Strahovski Join Bad Monkey Season 2
Vaughn leads the returning cast alongside Martinez, Charlotte Lawrence and John Ortiz.
Season 2 also adds John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski and Zavior Phillips in new roles.
Apple hasn’t revealed extensive details about their characters yet, leaving some of the season’s biggest additions under wraps.
The guest cast is equally substantial.
Nate Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Brent Morin, Joey Avery, Dax Shepard, Sam Jaeger, Margarita Levieva, Peter Billingsley and June Diane Raphael will all appear during the second season.
The combination gives Bad Monkey another unusually deep ensemble for Yancy to bounce off as his investigation expands.
Season 2 Moves Beyond Carl Hiaasen’s Original Bad Monkey Story
Perhaps the most interesting part of Apple’s announcement is what Season 2 isn’t adapting.
Season 1 was based on Hiaasen’s 2013 novel Bad Monkey, which introduced Andrew Yancy and the bizarre Florida mystery that ultimately became Apple’s television series.
Rather than simply moving directly into another Hiaasen adaptation, Season 2 will revolve around an all-new original story.
That gives Bad Monkey an interesting opportunity to evolve from an adaptation into a television franchise built around Vaughn’s version of Yancy.
Hiaasen remains involved with the series as an executive producer, helping maintain a direct connection to the author and the world that inspired it.
Bill Lawrence Returns as Showrunner
Bill Lawrence returns as developer, executive producer and showrunner through Doozer Productions and his overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
Vaughn also executive produces the series alongside Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Liza Katzer, Adam Sztykiel, Chris Downey and Hiaasen.
Warner Bros. Television produces the series.
Lawrence has become one of Apple TV’s most important comedy creators through projects including Ted Lasso and Shrinking, while Bad Monkey gives him a considerably different playground — one filled with murder, corruption, eccentric Floridians and, occasionally, badly behaved wildlife.
When Does Bad Monkey Season 2 Premiere?

The complete release schedule runs:
Episode 1 — December 2, 2026
Episode 2 — December 9, 2026
Episode 3 — December 16, 2026

Episode 8 — January 20, 2027
Episode 9 — January 27, 2027
