One of Batman’s most iconic comic book storylines is finally making its animated debut. During the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, DC, Warner Bros. Animation, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment unveiled the official trailer for BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL, an ambitious three-part animated movie event based on the legendary DC Comics crossover that forever changed the Dark Knight.
The first installment, BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL Part 1: Knightfall, premiered during Annecy and is scheduled for release later this year. Adapted from the groundbreaking comic event created by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent, the trilogy will bring one of Batman’s most famous battles to life for a new generation of fans.

In BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL Part 1: Knightfall, Gotham City descends into chaos when the ruthless and calculating Bane orchestrates a mass breakout at Arkham Asylum, unleashing Batman’s deadliest enemies all at once. Forced to battle wave after wave of villains, Bruce Wayne is pushed beyond his physical and psychological limits as Bane executes a plan designed to destroy the Dark Knight once and for all.
The film features an impressive voice cast led by Anson Mount as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando as Bane, and Pablo Schreiber as Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael, whose role becomes increasingly important as the Knightfall saga unfolds.
Directed by Jeff Wamester from a script by Jeremy Adams, the film is supervised by Rick Morales, with Jim Kriegand Kimberly S. Moreau serving as producers. Sam Register and Michael Uslan executive produce.
For longtime Batman fans, Knightfall remains one of the defining stories in the character’s history, introducing Bane as a physical and intellectual threat unlike any Batman had faced before. With a three-part adaptation planned, Warner Bros. Animation appears poised to give the beloved storyline the scope it deserves.
