Vizio M50 D-1 Review

THE GOOD The Vizio M50 D-1 is very affordable and offers a sharp picture especially noticeable when viewing motion in video games and sports. The M50 D-1 provides plenty of inputs ( 5 HDMI, 2 USB) and The Google Cast system offers a large collection of apps. The M50 D-1 offers a fantastic picture when viewed straight on. The upscaling engine for non-4K content ranged from pretty good (480p and 720p) to really good (1080p).

THE NOT SO GOOD We found the remote/tablet to be incredibly frustrating to navigate. The remote/tablet is a fully functioning android tablet so like a smart phone/tablet it needs to be charged with heavy use and the apps need to updated regularly. Fans of a traditional remote might find having to do all the settings from the tablet cumbersome. Additionally we noticed at times a lag between tablet input and command functioning on screen. Vizio does include a separate smaller remote but it’s extremely limited in functionality ( think on/off, volume and mute). The M50 D-1 has no built-in tuner so cord cutters will need a separate tuner to watch over the air channels. We also thought viewing from an angle provided a less than desirable picture and we found the overall sound/speakers to be below average. Also, we do wish the overall LED was a little brighter.

SEAT42F BOTTOM LINE Even though we don’t love the remote/tablet and the M50 D-1 offers no built-in tuner (a non starter for most cord cutters) the overall picture and value still make the M50 D-1 a solid choice for someone looking to jump into a new 4K picture. The M50 D-1 is a perfect fit for fans of doing everything from their phone/tablet with no interest in over the air channels looking for a new screen to stream content or watch their favorite Blu-ray movies.
