FX’s highly anticipated new drama The Shards makes its debut with The Shards Season 1 Episode 1 (S1E1 / 1×01), “Pilot,”premiering Wednesday, August 5 on FX and streaming the next day on Hulu. Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ acclaimed bestselling novel, the series transports viewers to the privileged world of an elite Los Angeles prep school in the early 1980s, where wealth, ambition, and teenage excess collide with a terrifying serial killer stalking the city.
At the center of the story is Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer whose carefully ordered world begins to unravel when charismatic newcomer Robert Mallory (Homer Gere) transfers into his senior class. As rumors spread about The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across Los Angeles, Bret becomes increasingly suspicious that Robert’s arrival may not be a coincidence. What begins as a coming-of-age story quickly evolves into a tense psychological thriller filled with obsession, paranoia, and hidden secrets.
The series also stars Kaia Gerber as Susan Reynolds, Hayes Warner as Debbie Schaffer, Graham Campbell as Thom Wright, Wes Bentley as Terry Schaffer, Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer, and Jordan Roth as Steven Reinhardt.
