THE ONE PIECE Anime Sets February 2027 Netflix Premiere With New Key Art

Netflix is preparing to send Monkey D. Luffy back to the beginning.

THE ONE PIECE, the new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s enormously popular manga from WIT Studio, will premiere globally on Netflix in February 2027, giving fans a fresh way to experience the beginning of Luffy’s journey to become King of the Pirates.

Netflix unveiled new key art for the series around Anime NYC, offering another look at the ambitious project that will retell the East Blue Saga from the beginning.

And despite the familiar name, this isn’t another season of Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE.

It’s an entirely new animated adaptation.

Watch the official teaser for THE ONE PIECE below.

What Is THE ONE PIECE?

THE ONE PIECE returns to the beginning of Oda’s original manga, following Monkey D. Luffy as he sets out across the East Blue in search of the legendary One Piece and begins assembling the Straw Hat Pirates.

The new adaptation comes from WIT Studio, the animation studio behind the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and Spy x Family.

Rather than continuing the long-running anime adaptation that first premiered in 1999, THE ONE PIECE provides a fresh interpretation of Oda’s story with a new animation team and a visual approach designed for a new generation of viewers.

Director Masashi Koizuka has explained that the creative team studied Oda’s work closely while developing its own interpretation of the characters, colors and environments. Netflix describes the result as both familiar and fresh.

How Much of the Manga Will THE ONE PIECE Season 1 Cover?

Netflix has revealed considerably more about the first season than simply its release window.

Season 1 consists of seven episodes with a total runtime of approximately 300 minutes.

The episodes will adapt roughly the first 50 chapters of the manga, beginning with Luffy’s adventure in the East Blue and continuing through his encounter with Sanji, the sous-chef of the floating restaurant Baratie.

That means viewers should meet several of the characters who eventually become essential members of Luffy’s crew, including Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji.

Netflix has already offered an early glimpse at the new interpretations of those characters in footage released for the series.

Why Is Netflix Making Another One Piece Anime?

It’s a reasonable question considering the original One Piece anime is still running.

But the scale of the franchise helps explain Netflix’s interest.

Oda’s manga debuted in 1997 and has sold more than 600 million copies worldwide as of March 2026, according to Netflix. The original anime followed in 1999 and has now been running for more than two decades.

Netflix then introduced the franchise to another enormous audience with its live-action adaptation in 2023.

That series has continued to expand. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming, with ONE PIECE Season 3 scheduled for 2027

THE ONE PIECE potentially offers something different: a way for viewers intrigued by the franchise to begin the original story without confronting more than a thousand episodes of an existing anime.

For longtime fans, meanwhile, WIT Studio’s reinterpretation provides an opportunity to see some of the manga’s most famous early moments recreated using modern animation.

Netflix Is Building an Entire One Piece Universe

Netflix’s investment in the franchise is becoming increasingly difficult to miss.

Alongside the live-action series and THE ONE PIECE, the streamer is releasing the two-part animated special LEGO ONE PIECE on September 29, 2026.

That means Netflix will soon have several distinct entry points into the same universe — from live action to traditional anime to a family-friendly LEGO interpretation.

Rather than relying on one adaptation, Netflix increasingly appears to be treating One Piece as one of its major global entertainment franchises.

And there’s plenty of audience available.

The success of the live-action version has already demonstrated that Luffy and the Straw Hats can reach well beyond the franchise’s established manga and anime fanbase.

Now WIT Studio gets its opportunity to take viewers back to where the entire adventure began.

When Does THE ONE PIECE Come Out on Netflix?

THE ONE PIECE premieres globally on Netflix in February 2027.

Netflix has not announced the exact February release date yet.

All seven episodes of the first season are expected to arrive together, with approximately five hours of story covering the beginning of Luffy’s East Blue adventure through his encounter with Sanji.
