The Leftovers Season 1 Episode 3, “Two Boats and a Helicopter,” shifts the spotlight to Reverend Matt Jamison as he desperately tries to save his church from foreclosure. Matt remains determined to prove that some of the people who vanished in the Sudden Departure were far from saints, even as his campaign makes him increasingly unpopular in Mapleton.
After learning that he could lose the church, Matt launches a last-minute effort to raise the money he needs. His increasingly desperate journey turns the episode into a deeply personal examination of Matt’s faith, his relationship with his wife Mary and his belief that the events around him may carry a larger meaning.
This episode of The Leftovers centers on Christopher Eccleston as Matt Jamison, with Justin Theroux as Kevin Garvey and Carrie Coon as Nora Durst. Janel Moloney appears as Matt’s wife, Mary Jamison, with additional appearances from characters connected to Mapleton and the Guilty Remnant.
