Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) has chosen a very different path, while Wanda’s cousins Lamar Kinsey (Asante Blackk) and James Kinsey (Peyton Alex Smith) quickly become part of her attempt to turn musical talent into something bigger.

“Click Pop” opens in Los Angeles in 1990, with Wanda Bell trying to build a new life after everything she survived on Snowfall. She is clean and back in Compton, working at a used-car dealership to make ends meet, but selling cars isn’t where Wanda sees her future.
What she wants is a way into Los Angeles’ rapidly growing rap business. Wanda believes music can become her next chapter, and she already has an artist in mind: Artillery (Simmie “Buddy” Sims III), a local rapper whose music connected with her while she was getting clean.
Wanda isn’t the only member of her family thinking about music. Her 19-year-old cousin Lamar Kinsey has been skipping school and spending his time at a music store, where he’s much more interested in making beats than following the future his family has planned for him.
Even getting home from the store shows how dangerous Lamar’s world is. He is chased while crossing gang territory and takes refuge inside a pharmacy until his older brother James comes to get him.
James is furious. He wants Lamar to stop chasing music, get a job and start bringing home money before their grandfather, Big Daddy Casey, comes down on the entire family. Lamar sees music as something more than a hobby, but James sees his younger brother putting himself in danger for a dream that may never pay off.
Where Are Wanda and Leon After Snowfall?
Wanda’s search for music brings her back to Leon Simmons when she sneaks into his place to dig through his record collection.
The former couple is no longer together. Their breakup has left some bitterness behind, but “Click Pop” makes it equally clear that the friendship and love between Wanda and Leon haven’t disappeared.
Their time in Africa changed both of them. Wanda came home determined to reinvent herself and build something new. Leon has taken another path and now operates a free legal clinic. He doesn’t understand why Wanda, after escaping the streets, wants to move closer to them again by pursuing artists whose lives remain tied to that world.
Leon is especially concerned about Lamar. From his perspective, Wanda is encouraging her young cousin to enter an environment filled with many of the same dangers they already fought to escape.
Wanda isn’t interested in being talked out of it. For her, music represents possibility, and she believes Lamar may have something special.
Wanda Gets Her Shot With Artillery
Wanda’s path into the business runs through Macroscope Records, where she is interning for Darryl “DG” Grant, a former gangster who has reinvented himself as a record executive.
During a meeting with DG, attorney Leonard Vance and label head Jenny Favarella, Wanda pitches Artillery. His reputation makes him a difficult prospect, but Jenny is interested enough to tell DG to pursue him and bring Wanda along.
Getting Artillery to cooperate is another matter.
He immediately distrusts the people from the label, viewing them as outsiders looking to profit from artists like him. Wanda gets through to him differently. She knows his music — not merely the obvious material, but his earlier demos — and tells him how much it meant to her during her recovery.
Artillery finally gives Wanda an opening. She has one week to bring him a song.
Lamar Chooses Music
Back at Big Daddy’s house, Lamar’s future becomes the subject of a family argument during a Sunday gathering.
His relatives are angry that he turned down a job with the pastor, particularly after his trip home from the music store nearly got him killed. They see a job as stability. Wanda sees a young man being told what his life is supposed to be before anyone asks him what he actually wants.
So she asks him.
Lamar chooses music.
Wanda immediately puts that decision to work. She gives Lamar a One Way record to sample and tells him they’re going to make something for Artillery.
For the first time, Wanda’s ambition and Lamar’s talent have a concrete goal: one song that could get both of them through the door.
Police Nearly Kill Artillery
While Wanda and Lamar work on the music, Artillery’s situation takes a violent turn.
Police confront the rapper over his provocative music and brutally beat him. They leave him badly injured in enemy territory, putting Wanda’s entire plan in jeopardy before she and Lamar can even get their track to him.
Wanda doesn’t know that yet when she makes another aggressive move at Macroscope.
Finding Artillery a song isn’t enough for her. Wanda tells DG that she wants to become his partner on the record. DG quickly shuts her down, reminding her that the money, name and industry connections belong to him.
The argument escalates and turns physical, leaving Wanda’s position at the label — and her larger plan — in serious trouble.
Then she gets even worse news: Artillery is dead.
Artillery Isn’t Dead — But Wanda Still Has to Reach Him
The report turns out not to be the full story. Wanda learns that Artillery survived the attack and that word of his death was apparently spread to protect him while he recovered.
That means Wanda and Lamar still have a chance to get their song to him.
James becomes the next obstacle.
He refuses to let Lamar go with Wanda, and Lamar finally unloads on his older brother. He’s tired of having other people decide what he can become and frustrated that James refuses to take his music seriously.
The brothers eventually talk it through. James doesn’t suddenly become convinced that the music business is safe, but he does recognize that Lamar has to be allowed to make his own choice.
James changes his mind — and goes one step further by agreeing to drive Wanda and Lamar himself.
For the first time in the premiere, the three of them are pursuing the same goal.

The smartest decision “Click Pop” makes is refusing to turn The Drop: A Snowfall Saga into Snowfall with a different central character. The streets and consequences of the original series remain part of this world, but the premiere shifts its attention toward the West Coast rap scene and the people trying to build something from the wreckage left by the crack era.
Gail Bean makes that transition work. Wanda arrives with enough history that longtime Snowfall viewers immediately understand what it means for her simply to be clean and thinking about a future. Bean also gives Wanda an urgency that keeps her ambition from feeling like a generic career storyline. She isn’t content with surviving anymore; she wants ownership of whatever comes next.
Asante Blackk makes a strong first impression as Lamar. There’s an appealing contrast between the uncertainty surrounding the teenager’s future and the confidence he finds when he’s making music. His story also gives the premiere a natural way to introduce its new generation without disconnecting the series from Wanda and Leon.
The music business gives The Drop its own identity. Early-’90s hip-hop isn’t merely being used as atmosphere around another crime story. Making records, finding artists and getting music heard are built directly into the drama, while the surrounding gang conflicts and police violence ensure this new world still feels connected to the Los Angeles established in Snowfall.
There are some first-episode growing pains. “Click Pop” has to reintroduce Wanda and Leon while simultaneously establishing Lamar, James, Artillery, DG, Macroscope Records and the larger Kinsey family. That’s a lot of machinery for one premiere, and some of the new characters inevitably get less room than others.
Still, the premiere establishes a compelling reason for this particular Snowfall story to continue. Wanda isn’t replacing Franklin Saint, and The Drop isn’t trying to replace Snowfall. It’s following what came next for people who survived that world.
Final Verdict
“Click Pop” gives The Drop: A Snowfall Saga a promising start by carrying the consequences of Snowfall forward without trying to recreate it. Gail Bean is more than capable of moving Wanda into the center of the story, Asante Blackk gives the new ensemble an immediate standout, and the emerging Los Angeles rap scene provides the spinoff with its own engine.
It’s a busy premiere, but the closing sequence pulls its different threads together nicely. Wanda finds her first real opening, Lamar finally gets someone to hear what he can do, and The Drop begins finding a rhythm of its own.

James drives Wanda and Lamar into Blood territory, where Artillery is recovering at a crowded house party.
Getting inside doesn’t mean they can simply walk up to him. Artillery’s manager blocks them, and the situation becomes increasingly hostile as Wanda tries to convince everyone that they need to hear what Lamar has made.
Lamar finally stops trying to talk his way through the room and puts on the track.
The reaction is immediate.
People at the party begin moving to the beat. The track makes its way through the house until Artillery hears it from the back room and comes out to find out what everyone is listening to.
He wants to hear it again.
They run the track back, and this time Artillery starts rapping over Lamar’s beat, effectively beginning to build a new song in the middle of the party.
Wanda came into “Click Pop” looking for an opportunity in the music business. Lamar began the episode with talent but no way to get anyone important to hear it. By the final scene, they’ve managed to put the right music in front of the right artist.
It doesn’t mean they’ve made it. Wanda still has problems with DG, Artillery remains surrounded by danger, and James has already seen exactly what can happen when Lamar crosses the wrong territory.
But they’ve gotten their first break.
