The Blacklist Season 1 Episode 2, “The Freelancer,” finds Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) and Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) working together to stop an assassin who disguises his killings as everyday disasters.
After Red predicts an impending catastrophe, he identifies an elusive assassin known as the Freelancer and warns that his next target is Floriana Campo (guest star Isabella Rossellini). Red and Liz go undercover in an attempt to keep Campo alive, while Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and newly rehired CIA agent Meera Malik (Parminder Nagra) monitor Red from a distance.
This episode of The Blacklist also continues the mystery surrounding Liz’s husband, Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), as Liz struggles with what to do about the mysterious box she discovered hidden beneath the floorboards. Harry Lennix also stars as Harold Cooper.
“The Freelancer” originally aired September 30, 2013 on NBC. The episode was written by series creator Jon Bokenkamp and directed by Jace Alexander.
