The Schwartz is officially heading back to San Diego.
Amazon MGM Studios has announced that SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE will make a highly anticipated stop at San Diego Comic-Con, with the cast and filmmakers landing in Hall H on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. PT. The studio revealed the news in true Spaceballs fashion, reminding fans to “please keep your Schwartz inside the convention center at all times.”
Alongside the Hall H announcement, the studio also unveiled the first official synopsis for the long-awaited sequel, confirming that the galaxy’s greatest parody is once again taking aim at Hollywood’s obsession with reboots, sequels, and legacy franchises.
Dark Helmet Returns… Somehow
According to the official synopsis, Dark Helmet has returned, setting the stage for another outrageous adventure that lovingly spoofs modern blockbuster filmmaking.
Set forty years after the original Spaceballs, fifty years after Star Wars: A New Hope, and “one year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the sequel promises plenty of self-aware humor as a new threat emerges with one goal: bringing back the past in the biggest reboot imaginable.
With Lone Starr nowhere to be found and Queen Vespa now ruling the galaxy, the fate of the Schwartz falls to her reckless son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious palace advisor named Destiny. Together, they’ll search for Lone Starr, Yogurt, and every legacy character fans are hoping to see before discovering that some enemies can’t be defeated—especially when they’re armed with the power of the reboot.
Legendary Cast Returns Alongside New Faces
The sequel brings back several beloved stars from the original film while introducing a new generation of characters.
The cast includes Rick Moranis, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and Mel Brooks.
Behind the camera, Josh Greenbaum directs from a screenplay by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, based on characters created by Mel Brooks, Thomas Meehan, and Ronny Graham.
The producing team includes Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Josh Greenbaum, and Kevin Salter, with Adam Merims, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez serving as executive producers.
Why Fans Should Be Excited
Nearly four decades after the original became a cult comedy classic, SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE looks poised to poke fun at everything dominating today’s entertainment landscape—from endless franchise revivals and nostalgia-driven sequels to cinematic universes and legacy characters.
With Rick Moranis returning alongside Mel Brooks and an impressive mix of comedy veterans and rising stars, the Hall H presentation could easily become one of San Diego Comic-Con’s biggest events. Fans should also expect new footage, surprise appearances, and plenty of laughs as the galaxy prepares to once again go to ludicrous speed.
