The original movie poster for The Smurfs offered an early look at the little blue characters making the leap to the big screen for Sony Pictures Animation’s 2011 live-action and animated adventure.
Directed by Raja Gosnell, The Smurfs sends Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Clumsy and the rest of the group out of their magical village and into New York City after they are chased through a portal by Gargamel.
THE SMURFS MOVIE POSTER : The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, they’re forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York’s Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
The Smurfs Head to New York City
After landing in Central Park, the Smurfs find themselves stranded in the human world and searching for a way home before Gargamel can track them down.
The film combines live action with CG animation, with Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays starring as Patrick and Grace Winslow. Hank Azaria plays Gargamel, while the voice cast includes Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Anton Yelchin as Clumsy, Alan Cumming as Gutsy, Fred Armisen as Brainy and George Lopez as Grouchy.
The Smurfs was released in theaters in 2011 and marked the characters’ first major live-action/CG feature film adventure.
