Project Hail Mary returns to IMAX screens nationwide beginning April 17, in a special one-week engagement from Amazon MGM Studios. The global blockbuster will return to IMAX screens across the globe as well as to 16 IMAX 70MM film locations – 15 domestic 70mm locations as well as the BFI IMAX in London – offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience of the biggest films of the year in IMAX’s most immersive presentation.

Project Hail Mary has emerged as a breakout theatrical success, surpassing $510 million at the global box office to date and becoming Amazon MGM Studios’ highest-grossing theatrical release ever.

Project Hail Mary scored the biggest IMAX debut of 2026 and has grossed $82 million across the IMAX global network to date. IMAX delivered 20% of the film’s North American debut on just 400 screens — making Project Hail Mary only the third Domestic opening over $80 million to achieve that feat, alongside Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two.

Filmmakers Christopher Mller and Phil Lord shot Project Hail Mary with IMAX-certified digital cameras and nearly two hours of the film are presented in IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratio. The filmmakers worked closely with IMAX throughout the production process – from early camera tests and technical demos at IMAX headquarters through post-production – to fully optimize the film for The IMAX Experience.Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.
