CBS’s Person of Interest raised the stakes in its fourth season with Season 4 Episode 4 (S4E4 / 4×04), “Brotherhood.”Originally airing on October 14, 2014, the episode introduces one of the series’ most dangerous criminal organizations as John Reese’s undercover assignment with the NYPD becomes increasingly complicated. When the Machine identifies siblings Malcolm and Tracie Booker as its latest Persons of Interest, Reese discovers they’ve unknowingly become targets after stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the ruthless street gang known as The Brotherhood.
Written by Denise Thé and directed by Chris Fisher, “Brotherhood” marks a pivotal turning point for Season 4. The episode not only introduces crime boss Dominic and his expanding criminal empire, but also strengthens the alliance between Harold Finch and Carl Elias as they recognize the growing threat posed by The Brotherhood. At the same time, Reese must balance his new role as Detective John Riley with protecting two innocent children caught in the middle of a brutal gang war.
Alongside standout performances from Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Kevin Chapman, and Sarah Shahi, the episode features memorable guest appearances by Enrico Colantoni as Elias, Jamie Hector as Link Cordell, and Winston Duke in one of his early television roles. Widely regarded as one of the most important episodes of the season, “Brotherhood” lays the foundation for the escalating conflict between Elias and Dominic that drives much of the remainder of Season 4.
