Before Outlander premiered on Starz in 2014, the network introduced viewers to Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser with a collection of promotional photos from the new series.
Based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels, Outlander begins with Claire, a married combat nurse living in 1945 who is mysteriously transported back to Scotland in 1743. Stranded in an unfamiliar and dangerous time, Claire encounters Jamie Fraser, a young Scottish warrior who will transform her life.
The original Outlander cast also includes Tobias Menzies as Frank Randall and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, Gary Lewis as Colum MacKenzie, Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan and Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.
Developed for television by Ronald D. Moore, Outlander premiered August 9, 2014 on Starz and launched a television adaptation that blends historical drama, romance and time travel.
