The murder of a prominent newspaper editor brings the detectives into a newsroom filled with secrets. As the investigation moves forward, Price faces a conflict between the public’s right to know and a journalist’s responsibility to protect a source.
What Is “Bad News” About?
The case begins with an editor’s death, but finding answers means working through information that people inside the newsroom are keeping to themselves. Those secrets obstruct the investigation, leaving the detectives to determine what matters to the murder case.
For Executive Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price, the challenge also involves the limits of disclosure. A journalist’s duty to protect a source complicates the pursuit of information, putting professional obligations and the demands of the case into tension.
The preview sets up a dispute over access to information without revealing the source’s identity, the killer or how Price resolves the problem. Hugh Dancy’s prosecutor has difficult decisions ahead in tonight’s episode.
