Best known for his starring role on the television hit “Magnum P.I.,” Selleck earned an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a People’s Choice Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his portrayal of private investigator Tom Magnum. His extensive television career has included recurring roles on “Boston Legal,” opposite Candice Bergen, and NBC’s critically acclaimed show “Friends,” which garnered him an Emmy nomination for ‘Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series’ in 2000.
A veteran in the world of television movies, Selleck was most recently seen in the ongoing successful “Jesse Stone” franchise, which aired its latest installment on May 22, 2007. Other television movie credits include “Reversible Errors,” “Louis L’Amour’s Crossfire Trail” and Emmy nominated “IKE: Countdown to D-Day.” Selleck has also worked behind the camera, executive producing and co-writing television projects including the “Jesse Stone” series, “Monte Walsh” and “Last Stand at Saber River,” among others.
With over 20 years of experience in the film industry, Selleck has been seen on the big screen in such hits as the 1987 romantic comedy “Three Men and a Baby,” with Ted Danson and Steve Guttenburg, which garnered a People’s Choice Award. Additional film credits include starring in the hit sequel “Three Men and a Little Lady,” “Quigley Down Under,” “In and Out,” with Kevin Klein, and the “The Love Letter,” with Blythe Danner and Ellen DeGeneres among others. In a departure from the television and film screens, Selleck made his Broadway debut in the romantic comedy “A Thousand Clowns” in 2001.
Selleck also devotes time to philanthropic causes such as The Joseph & Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics; the Character Counts Coalition; the Skin Cancer Foundation; the Los Angeles Mission to help the homeless; the Student/Sponsor Partnership Program in New York City; the National Fatherhood Initiative; and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He recently received a Distinguished American Award for the Horatio Alger Association and was the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Pepperdine University.
He resides outside of Los Angeles with his wife, actress Jillie Mack, and their daughter.
