HBO Max has released a brand-new teaser for LANTERNS, offering a fresh look at the highly anticipated DC Studios drama while confirming the series will premiere Sunday, August 16 on HBO and stream on HBO Max. The teaser also delivers a first look at Emmy-winning actress Laura Linney, joining an already impressive cast led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
Set within the expanding DC Studios universe, LANTERNS follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic law enforcers pulled into a dark murder investigation rooted in the American heartland. The grounded mystery angle gives the series a distinctly different feel from previous live-action DC adaptations, blending superhero mythology with prestige crime drama.

New LANTERNS Teaser
For DC fans, LANTERNS has quickly become one of the most intriguing upcoming series on HBO Max, especially with creative heavyweights Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), Tom King, and showrunner Chris Mundy helping shape the story.
The cast includes:
- Kyle Chandler
- Aaron Pierre
- Kelly Macdonald
- Garret Dillahunt
- Poorna Jagannathan
- Laura Linney
- Jason Ritter
- Ulrich Thomsen
- Nathan Fillion
- J. Alphonse Nicholson
- Jasmine Cephas Jones
The pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with James Hawes directing the first two episodes. Additional directors include Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov.
As part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s evolving DC Studios slate, LANTERNS appears to be taking the Green Lantern mythology in a darker, more grounded direction, with an earth-based mystery rather than a traditional cosmic superhero spectacle.
If the teaser is any indication, LANTERNS may end up being one of HBO Max’s biggest event series of the summer.
