J.J. Abrams is returning to ABC with a new drama project written by "Six Feet Under" writer-producer Jill Soloway.

ABC has handed out a rich put pilot commitment to 'Boundaries', which marks the first major broadcast commitment to come from the blockbuster six-year pact Abrams' Bad Robot inked with Warner Bros. TV in July 2006.

Abrams had been a fixture on ABC, where he has executive produced several series — "Lost," "Alias," "What About Brian" and "Six Degrees" — before he left his longtime TV home ABC Studios in summer 2006 to go to WBTV. Abrams has been busy on the feature side lately, prepping the new "Star Trek" movie for Paramount.

'Boundaries', from Bad Robot and WBTV, centers on a mobile notary who involves herself in the lives of those she comes in contact with.

The project stems from a script deal Soloway inked with Bad Robot and WBTV in June.

In addition to writing the project, Soloway is executive producing with Bad Robot's Abrams and Kathy Lingg.

Soloway is working on ABC's hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" as a consulting producer under a deal with the series' producer ABC Studios. During her three-year stint on Alan Ball's "Six Feet Under," she earned three best drama series Emmy nominations as part of the show's producing team.

The first project sold by Bad Robot and WBTV through their deal was a medical drama, which was picked up to pilot at HBO.
