Netflix just became the first place to see the next major look at one of the most anticipated entertainment releases of the year.
Rockstar Games has debuted Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix, giving subscribers a 27-minute look at GTA 6 months before the game arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The presentation offers the deepest official look yet at Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the criminal couple at the center of Rockstar’s return to Vice City, while showing off everything from robberies and police pursuits to vehicles, combat and everyday life across the fictional state of Leonida.
Most importantly, Rockstar confirms that the presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5.

Netflix released a teaser promoting the Grand Theft Auto VI event, which premiered exclusively for Netflix subscribers at 3 p.m. ET on August 27.
The full extended look received a six-hour exclusive window on Netflix. Rockstar will make the presentation available free on its official YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website beginning at 9 p.m. ET on August 27.
That unusual release strategy makes the event noteworthy beyond the game itself. Rather than simply uploading its next major GTA VI presentation to YouTube, Rockstar partnered with Netflix to turn the reveal into a streaming premiere.
What Does The GTA 6 Extended Look Reveal?
A lot.
The nearly half-hour presentation provides a much more substantial look at how Grand Theft Auto VI actually plays, with Jason and Lucia frequently working together as they navigate the criminal underworld of Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida.
Footage shows robberies, shootouts, driving, police pursuits and quieter moments between the two protagonists, along with a wide variety of activities including boating, basketball, diving, racing and parachuting.
The presentation also shows Jason and Lucia approaching situations both together and separately.
In one sequence, one character drives while the other fires at pursuing police. Another separates the pair during a mission, showing how Rockstar can shift the action between its two protagonists.
It’s a familiar concept for players who remember switching among Michael, Franklin and Trevor in Grand Theft Auto V, but GTA VI appears to place considerably more emphasis on the relationship and cooperation between its two leads.
Who Are Jason And Lucia In GTA 6?
At the heart of Grand Theft Auto VI are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Rockstar’s official synopsis begins with a seemingly simple score that goes badly wrong, leaving Jason and Lucia caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
With the odds stacked against them, they’re forced to rely on one another if they hope to survive.
That relationship has been central to Rockstar’s marketing from the beginning, and the extended look makes it even clearer that Jason and Lucia aren’t simply two playable characters sharing the same map.
Their relationship is part of the story.
GTA 6 Returns To Vice City
Grand Theft Auto VI brings the franchise back to Vice City, Rockstar’s fictional take on Miami, but this time the world extends far beyond the city itself.
Vice City sits within the fictional state of Leonida, giving Rockstar room to explore beaches, highways, wetlands, rural areas and other environments inspired by Florida.
The new footage emphasizes that variety, moving from densely packed urban environments and nightclubs to waterways and outdoor areas while showing just how populated and reactive Rockstar intends the world to feel.
For longtime fans, it’s the first return to Vice City as the primary setting of a mainline Grand Theft Auto game since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City arrived in 2002.
The GTA 6 Footage Was Captured On PlayStation 5
One of the most important details arrived directly from Rockstar after the presentation.
According to the developer, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
That distinction matters.
Rather than presenting a cinematic trailer that offers little indication of what players will actually experience, the extended look provides a much clearer representation of Rockstar’s current vision for the game running on console hardware.
Rockstar describes GTA VI as the “biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.”
Why Did GTA 6 Premiere On Netflix?
That’s almost as interesting as the footage.
Rockstar and Netflix describe the event as a first-of-its-kind partnership, with Netflix receiving a six-hour exclusive window before the presentation becomes freely available through Rockstar.
Netflix Vice President of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg said Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments and described the partnership as part of Netflix’s ambition to become a destination for ambitious storytelling regardless of medium.
It makes Grand Theft Auto VI an interesting experiment for Netflix.
The service isn’t merely streaming a movie or television series inspired by a game. Instead, one of the biggest video-game developers in the world used Netflix itself as the premiere platform for a major piece of marketing for an upcoming game.
Considering the enormous anticipation surrounding GTA VI, plenty of other entertainment companies will likely be paying attention to how that experiment works.
When Does Grand Theft Auto VI Come Out?
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar has not announced a PC release date.
That puts the extended look less than three months before players finally return to Vice City — and 13 years after Grand Theft Auto V originally arrived in 2013.
Until then, Netflix subscribers can watch Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look now, while Rockstar’s free version arrives on YouTube and the official GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET tonight.
