EXCLUSIVE : STALKED BY MY EX Scoop: Shining The Spotlight On Tamara Braun

Truth is always stranger than fiction, but when fiction echoes real life, it can be just as terrifying. In Lifetime’s latest movie STALKED BY MY EX, a mother valiantly struggles to keep herself and her daughter safe from her ex-husband. Tamara Braun brings a wonderful combination of vulnerability and tenacious strength to her role. In an exclusive interview, Tamara talks about what appealed to her about this role and a few of the lessons she has learned as her career continues to grow.

How would you describe who Chloe is?
Tamara : Chloe is a devoted, single mother and independent women. She is strong, smart, ambitious and kind. She is a caring and devoted mother and really loves and likes her daughter.

What do you most admire most about Chloe?
Tamara : Her dedication to her daughter is what I most admire about Chloe. She tries to do what is best for Olivia [Brytnee Ratledge], puts her first and they have a good, loving relationship.

What was it like working alongside the talented ensemble?
Tamara : We all got on great! There were so many laughs and it was a pleasure going to work on this project knowing that I got to work with talented, kind and FUN people.

What has been your favorite part about working on the film?
Tamara : The cast and crew. The people were SO NICE!! When you are working long hours with people you have just met it’s such a relief and gift to know there will be joy on set.

As an actor, what has been the one thing you haven taken away from the experience of working on the movie?
Tamara : That New Mexico has some GORGEOUS landscapes!! Wow. What a treat to get to shoot there.

You are back working on “General Hospital.” You obviously enjoy daytime TV. What do you enjoy the most about working in daytime versus primetime?
Tamara : I like working. I really love when I get the chance to play interesting characters that have layers and aren’t what people think they are on the surface. I think that in life most people aren’t what you think they are at first glance. So regardless of the medium I enjoy getting to do my work. The pace of daytime TV these days has gotten really fast. It’s good for the bottom line but sometimes I think it hinders the ability to get the best performance out of the actors, camera, lighting, everyone. But that has always been the case because soaps have always required the most work in the shortest amount of time. Although prime time and films are shot a lot faster these days too so there is much less time across the board. One of the things I do appreciate in prime time and films that soap doesn’t generally allow is multiple takes. There is an opportunity to find things(which can be magical) in the doing of the work that one take doesn’t allow. Film, prime time, Daytime, Theater…they all have their pros and cons.

What has surprised you most about your career so far?
Tamara : I’ve been working in this industry a long time and I still wake up excited to get on set.

Do you find any of you character’s habits manifesting in your own life? Like what?
Tamara : Sometimes you get a role that is so spot on with what you are dealing with in your own life that it is bizarre. Sometimes a character is nothing like you are in real life. Hopefully, if I have adopted my character’s qualities they are the good ones and not the bad qualities!! I have done some CRAZY things as characters I have played.

Has there been any great advice you have gotten about working as an actor?
Tamara : The mic is always on. Remember that when you have to pee.

What advice would you offer to other upcoming and aspiring actors?
Tamara : Love the process. Work hard. Study hard. Be professional and know that time goes by fast! The percentage of actors who make a living acting is very low so please LOVE what you do because there will be highs and lows. How you cope with the lows (or slow times) will make all the difference in your life. Do not wait for things to come to you. Make your opportunities. There is so much talent in the world that goes unnoticed. If this is your dream and passion go for it and give it all you have.

Are you actively involved with any charities. Which charity do you work with most? And which would like to see your fans become more involved with and support?
Tamara : I am involved with The Tanzanian Children’s Fund ( https://www.tanzanianchildrensfund.org/ ) and sponsor children through the organization. I also volunteered in Tanzania at TCF. It was one of the best experiences in my life…hands down. TCF is an incredible organization that gives orphaned children a forever family. I also support The Real Bark Dog Rescue ( http://www.therealbark.org/) who I started fostering dogs through. They do such great work with dogs in need and help rehabilitate and place pups in loving foster and forever homes. Another organization that is dear to my heart is TLC, Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind (http://tlc4blind.org/). The residents that TLC helps are blind and multiply disabled. The homes and daycare facilities are stellar. They create an environment of dignity, respect and care to a portion of the population that many close their eyes to. There are many wonderful organizations helping others. These are a few I have personally worked with and have the utmost respect and appreciation for. Please check out all of the great work they are doing and get involved if you can. 🙂
