As Richard Castle and Kate Beckett investigate a growing list of angry ex-husbands with motives for revenge, Castle’s personal life becomes every bit as complicated as the case itself.
Written by Terence Paul Winter and directed by Holly Dale, “Significant Others” expertly balances the week’s murder investigation with one of the series’ funniest domestic storylines. While Alexis recovers from mononucleosis, Castle’s ex-wife Meredith unexpectedly moves into the loft to care for their daughter. At the very same time, Beckett is temporarily forced out of her apartment while it’s being fumigated, leaving Castle caught between his current girlfriend and his ex-wife under the same roof. The resulting tension provides plenty of laughs while also highlighting how far Castle and Beckett’s relationship has evolved.
Alongside Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, the episode features the return of Darby Stanchfield as Meredith, along with guest stars Jack Wagner, Nancy Lee Grahn, and Mark Deklin. Combining a clever mystery with memorable relationship comedy, “Significant Others” remains one of the standout episodes of Castle’s fifth season.
