The series, from Emmy Award-winning writer/producers Dan Goor and Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation”), won the 2014 Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical (Samberg). Braugher recently earned a 2015 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, in addition to his 2014 nomination in the same category.
Working alongside Jake is Holt’s second-in-command, Sergeant TERRY JEFFORDS (Terry Crews), a linebacker of a man and father to twin baby girls, with another on the way. Also working cases in Brooklyn’s 99th are Detective AMY SANTIAGO (Melissa Fumero), the unit’s honorary straight arrow, for whom Jake has confessed his “romantic-styles” affection. Meanwhile, Detective CHARLES BOYLE (Joe Lo Truglio) had long pined for the tough, sexy and scary-as-hell Detective ROSA DIAZ (Stephanie Beatriz), but now they share a comfortably platonic friendship as Rosa is dating Holt’s nephew, Marcus (guest star Nick Cannon). In an unusual twist of fate, Boyle became stepbrother to civilian assistant GINA LINETTI (Chelsea Peretti), when their parents married. Rounding out the precinct’s staff are veteran officers Detective SCULLY (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Detective HITCHCOCK (Dirk Blocker). Unproductive and inept, the pair may not solve many cases, but they make an amazing pot of coffee. Additional guest stars include Kyra Sedgwick as Deputy Chief Madeline Wuntch, Holt’s superior and longtime nemesis.
